Looks like Google Wave was useful after all! As Muldoon would say "Clever girl." Everybody loves an italicized logo right? Seems similar enough to warrant a comment. It's really a shame Google Wave never took off. It was a fantastic collaboration tool. We even incorporated it at the fruit company I use to work at, until the fruit czar said we couldn't anymore. All the buzz today seems to be about Google Wallet, I'm more interested in the logo to be quite honest. While it's not exactly the same, it's similar enough to be slightly confusing. Then again, about 40 people used Google Wave so perhaps this isn't a branding issue. For such a unique company, I'm surprised this passed the upper echelons at Google. Google is so precise about their brand and for them to announce a new product with a logo that is similar to a failed product is, again, surprising. Is Google stretched so far with all these new products and initiatives that they're overlooking a key aspect of their branding? Or is this such a different enough logo that it doesn't matter? I am certainly not an authority on graphic design. I enjoy it as a hobby that I sometimes get paid for (rarely) That being said, I immediately was reminded of the Google Wave logo upon first viewing. So if I, a nobody in graphic design, thought of an old brand upon seeing a new brand then I can't be the only one thinking it. Don't be evil, update your branding.
