In December I was asked by a client to spend some time at WNYBAC, the Western New York Book Arts Center. As someone who enjoys the craft of typography and graphic print design I embarrassingly have to admit that I hadn’t been to WNYBAC before, which is why I jumped at the chance to shoot the assignment.

Today we visit the Lord Bedlington Cup again, because it was that good of a match. I mentioned yesterday how physical of a game the matchup between FC Buffalo and the Bedlington Terriers FC was, and nothing exemplifies the tense atmosphere than this image. This incident was one of two near brawls that erupted in this [...]

[This is going to be a ramble, and a confession and more or less self therapy more than an entertaining post for my dozens of readers.] I looked in the mirror last night after struggling to get through a product shoot and stared at myself for a good forty seconds. We’ve all done it, it’s [...]

Chrismahanakwanzaka is almost upon us and that means it’s time to find a gift for the photographer in your life. If your loved one is anything like me he or she is nearly impossible to shop for and that is mainly because I just buy stuff without telling anyone and then when boxes of gear shows [...]

Laura is one of the most fun, sarcastic, intelligent and quick witted person I know. She drops pipe bombs of truth and can quote Arrested Development with the best of them. She also is a genius. A legitimate genius, she even has the certificate to prove it. She came to my studio for a portrait [...]

Elmwood Village Mass Appeal 2011,what can I say that probably hasn’t already been said? Buffalo’s favorite producer and influencer, Erin Habes, again asked me to bring in some gear for a backstage studio to photograph well over 100 models for this years Elmwood Village Mass Appeal event. Last year I set up the studio in [...]

Chaz Adams was one of the first people to dive into my offer for a portrait session. I’ve been offering these shoots to folks on Twitter and Facebook as a way for me to network, meet some of these people I follow and simply shoot someone and have a nice conversation. I hadn’t met Chaz [...]

There are people in the world, and I certainly fall into this category, who know how to use photoshop and illustrator – then there are true designers in every sense of the word. Paul Panfalone falls into the latter category. I met Paul back in our days in the Wild Wild West known as Apple [...]

Tonight I had a portrait session with local blogger/snowboarder @ChazAdams. More to come.

Despite my professional hatred for these eight legged spawns of satan, I had to use an opportunity this morning to photograph one of these little guys descending from the roof of my front porch. Used a 60mm @2.8 1/125sec about 8inches from the subject.

A photographer is suppose to provide a voice for the voiceless. They are suppose to tell the story of those who are unable to tell it themselves. Whether that story is genocide in Darfur, the space shuttle or a wedding – A photographer is suppose to give their unbiased documentation of what they see. Photographers are [...]

Location, Location, Location. When I’m putting together a new photo assignment finding a location tends to be the most time consuming aspect of the production. Location is key, any photographer will tell you that, and with all of us carrying smartphones that don’t make phone calls we need to use these tools to make our [...]

I woke this morning to an interesting surprise from one of my clients, LehrerDance. I do most of their content producing – video, web, design and photography; I’m basically their personal Barbra Streisand. I got an email from Jon with some  photos of the ArtVoice Give4Greatness campaign which featured 4 of my LehrerDance photographs. I [...]

In the past I talked about how great I think the Cross Process app is for iPhone. I still believe, despite having ten or so photography apps for iOS, that Cross Process is the best app for taking photo’s. It is simple, your end result is simple, elegant and it satisfies all my mobile photo [...]

Two things. First thing, if you’re visiting from reading Erin Habes article on BuffaloSpree.com, welcome. If you’re looking for more photos from our Buffalo Spree shoot, you can find them a little further down in this post. The second thing is I’m happy to announce I’m ready to accept booking in my new studio at [...]

My colleague and I frequent a national preserve near Buffalo that has an abundance of wildlife and avian dwellers. The Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge is located near Alabama, New York right in the middle of Buffalo and Rochester. The site is one of the over 500 wildlife refuges managed by the United States Fish and [...]

I love finding these little gems in Buffalo. Having not been born in Buffalo I still find myself finding these little treasures popping up every once and a while. While out on a photo walk one day I happened upon the old Wonder Bread plant that was once functional in Buffalos industrial side. Through some [...]

On Friday November 5th, I had the privilege of photographing all the models that participated in the Elmwood Village Mass Appeal Fashion Event (Sponsored by Sorrento Cheese). As far as I could tell the event was pulled off without a hitch and all the volunteers, make up artists, hair designers, models and other staff did [...]

Attention Canon shooters tired of hearing about how great Nikon Flashes are. Attention Canon shooters looking to understand the fundamentals of Canon Flashes and do all “that cool stuff.” You now have a holy grail – protect it with your life. Rocky Nook, a great publishing house that dabbles in all things photography are the [...]

I’ve been a long time user of Photomatix Pro 3 and it has been the ideal HDR solution for me. I know there are other applications out there, Nik come to mind, as well as plug-ins for the common photo applications – but I find for a start to finish application is the best way [...]

I’ve been photographing and providing content for Buffalo’s own LehrerDance since August 2007. The story is actually quite interesting, at least for me. My roommate at the time was (still is) of the company members and the day of their Buffalo Premiere on a hot, muggy August day he called me in a panic. Long [...]

Even with built in HDR, and even with a dozen or so worth iPhone camera apps, Cross Process is still the favorite son on my mobile device I think the reason why I enjoy using Cross Process the most is because the app knows what it does. By that I mean it’s a one trick [...]
